Why there is no free plan
On trials, fair prices, and why a product without a free tier can be simpler and kinder to the people who use it.
People ask us this a lot. Here is the answer.
Free plans are not free
Somebody pays for them. Usually it is the paying customers, in two ways: their price carries the free users, and their product is full of fences. Three filters, five projects, upgrade to see your history. Every fence is code, every fence comes with a banner, and every banner is a small interruption in a day that has enough of those.
What we do instead
- A 14-day trial with everything in it, for every workspace. No card to start.
- Then one fair price, on par with Todoist. See pricing.
- If you stop paying, the workspace goes read-only. Your tasks stay, they keep syncing, and export always works.
Fewer users, better looked after
Without a free plan we will have fewer users. That is the idea. A smaller group of people who chose the product is a group we can actually listen to and build for.
It keeps the product honest, too. With no fences to sell, every feature has to earn its place by being useful rather than by being held back.
14 days is enough to find out whether a task list fits. If it does not, no hard feelings.
